The Book is Out!
Even with my 18th book, it’s exciting when the book becomes reality. It’s kind of like having a baby: preparing for the arrival, getting antsy with anticipation, holding the “baby” in your hands for the first time, handing out pictures/post cards, and making announcements. And of course, you hope that people don’t call your baby ugly .
We, like any proud parent, love to hear how beautiful and brilliant our baby is. But any seasoned author knows (unless they’re really crazy) that you can’t please everyone. I’m always amused at the reviews on Amazon’s book pages, some raving and some ranting: “This is the best book I’ve read!” and “Who would publish this dreck?”—all for the same book! That’s what makes the world so interesting –lots of books, lots of movies, lots of stories…something for everyone! But remember that every book is someone’s baby. Someone’s dream. Be kind to authors.
Yes, we are those slightly crazy people who hear voices in our heads and see people who aren’t there. We steal body parts and pieces of conversations and sew them together Frankenstein-style to make our characters. We raise our arms and shout, “It’s alive!” when the character comes together for us. We are mad scientists, lost in worlds of our own making. And if we’re really, really lucky, we get to share that craziness with you. Aren’t you glad?
Cheers,
Tina
