Woo Woo to you

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tina Wainscott @ 11:47 am

Synchronicities are usually pretty neat.  Thinking of someone and finding an email in your inbox from them.  Having something on your mind and then getting a newsletter with something in it that addresses that.  The other day I saw a red Maserati twice on the same street, going in the same direction, on the same day but hours apart.  Two traffic lights were out in two different places.  I should have played the lottery!  I love those kind of woo-woo moments.  But in one week’s time, three men connected to my husband’s business were in the news.  One was arrested, one was missing in Colorado in a snowstorm and one was missing locally.  I’m not sure what that means, other than I was starting to get a little nervous.  The snowbound guy was found and is doing fine, but unfortunately the other guy was not.

As my new book about a woman being stalked was about to come out, a local woman disappeared from her home, leaving two children alone in the house.  The story could have been one I’d made up, but sadly it was real.  She made some cell phone calls to get help, but by the time the police nabbed the guy, she was already dead.  The weird thing is, he had no connection to her except the tiniest thread: he had been behind her in line at the post office.  How creepy is that?  You get stamps and die because you just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.

One book every woman and especially every teenage girl should read is Gavin DeBecker’s Gift of Fear.  Men, too, can benefit from its advice on the people who come into our lives.  Gavin teaches us to pay attention to our instincts and what to look for in the people around us.  He makes an excellent point: we are the only animals who talk ourselves out of our instinctual warnings.  Women are raised to be nice and polite and women are brutalized much more than men are.

Thoughts to ponder!  I wish you all a great woo-woo moment today.

Cheers,

Tina

The Book is Out!

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tina Wainscott @ 3:27 pm

Even with my 18th book, it’s exciting when the book becomes reality.  It’s kind of like having a baby: preparing for the arrival, getting antsy with anticipation, holding the “baby” in your hands for the first time, handing out pictures/post cards, and making announcements.  And of course, you hope that people don’t call your baby ugly .

We, like any proud parent, love to hear how beautiful and brilliant our baby is.  But any seasoned author knows (unless they’re really crazy) that you can’t please everyone.  I’m always amused at the reviews on Amazon’s book pages, some raving and some ranting: “This is the best book I’ve read!” and “Who would publish this dreck?”—all for the same book!  That’s what makes the world so interesting –lots of books, lots of movies, lots of stories…something for everyone!  But remember that every book is someone’s baby.  Someone’s dream.  Be kind to authors.

Yes, we are those slightly crazy people who hear voices in our heads and see people who aren’t there.  We steal body parts and pieces of conversations and sew them together Frankenstein-style to make our characters.  We raise our arms and shout, “It’s alive!” when the character comes together for us.  We are mad scientists, lost in worlds of our own making.  And if we’re really, really lucky, we get to share that craziness with you.  Aren’t you glad?

Cheers,

Tina

Sex, Lies, and Blogs…

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tina Wainscott @ 9:23 pm

One of the most provocative titles I’ve ever heard was the movie Sex, Lies and Videotape.  So my bastardizing of that title is a bit appropriate since my book, WHAT LIES IN SHADOW, is quite provocative in itself.  After all, my heroine, Jonna, is considering having an affair, but only because she’s sure her distant-but-sexy husband is having one.  That’s the SEX part.  LIES, well, that goes along with infidelity, and Jonna is trapped in not only her lies but other people’s lies as well.  BLOGS is one of her secrets.  She created a blog where she anonymously poured out her frustrations and desires, and when The Boston Globe picked up the story, her blog became hugely popular.  More popular than Jonna ever wanted it to be.

Okay, back to the SEX part.  So Jonna decides to dip her toe in the waters of infidelity with an innocent lunch with Dominic, a sexy-but-sensitive man she’s met through her blog who promises to sate her every desire.  Only she decides that she can’t do it.  She’s got to give her marriage one last try.  The only problem is, Dominic knows who she really is and he isn’t about to let her go.  While she’s desperately trying to keep her secrets from her husband, Dominic is doing everything he can to expose them.  She can’t get the blog shut down, can’t turn to anyone for help, and can’t get away from her stalker.  Her secret is about to destroy her life.  Then Jonna discovers her husband has some secrets of his own.  In fact, most everyone in her life has secrets, and some of those secrets are downright deadly.

So I could have called this blog Sex, Lies, Blogs and Murder.  Oh, and Secrets!  In fact, I should have called the book Sex, Lies, Blogs, Murder, Secrets, with Lots of Twists and Turns. Yeah, I know: too many words.  I’m a writer, what can I say? J

I’ve got a sneak peek at the book and tidbits in my Inside Information page on my Fun Stuff link at my website: www.tinawainscott.com.  I don’t blog a whole lot, and I definitely don’t share the kind of things Jonna shares on her fictional blog.  And now you see why.  In fact, I’ve had a few people tell me that they’re awfully glad they don’t share personal information after reading my book.  After all, you never know who’s looking…
